At the July election, the Coalition promised Australians that the issue of same-sex marriage would be put to a public vote as soon as practicable. The Government developed a fair and transparent plan that would allow all Australians to resolve this issue for themselves in February 2017.
The Government offered to work with the Labor Party to bring about a public vote. In response, the Labor Party has rejected the wishes of the Australian people to resolve this issue by plebiscite, and refused to deal with the Government in good faith.
I call Bill Shorten and the Labor Party, the Greens and Nick Xenophon to get out of the way, stop the delay and allow the Australian people to have their say and resolve this issue.
