This Easter long weekend will be different.
We won't be visiting family, attending church services, going to the beach or going on a holiday. It will be a long weekend spent at home. We spend it at home, not as a punishment but as a service. A service which will help stop the spread of the virus, so the most vulnerable in our community will have more long weekends ahead of them.
I ask you to please, take this message seriously.
Stay. At. Home.
It goes against the very nature of our community, but we need to continue to flatten the curve.
Together, we are already seeing new cases decline and slower rates of infection. We are succeeding, but we must not get complacent.
Finally, I would like to share this passage that is most speaking to me at this moment.
[When] the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” [John 20.19]
It is my hope that although some Australians are uncertain as to the future, the peace of Jesus and the Easter message of self-sacrifice and helping others will be taken to heart.
