Local road maintenance in Mackellar will receive a boost thanks to funding under the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.
Federal Member for Mackellar, Jason Falinski said the funding will provide local jobs, stimulate the economy and improve the lives of locals. He highlighted that infrastructure projects are even more important now, as the economy needs stimulation.
“This money will not only improve road quality but create jobs and stimulate the economy in this time of need.”Mr Falinski said.
“Getting infrastructure projects underway is more now more important than ever.”
Mr Falinski is encouraged by the Federal Government’s announcement, as he highlights that when people are able to spend less time commuting, it means more time with family.
“Locals deserve better quality roads than what they currently have.”
The Northern Beaches Council will be given $500,000 from the Federal Government to carry out these improvements.
Mr Falinski has stressed the need for council to ensure that all this money goes to improving roads in the local area.
“Council must use this money to carry out much need upgrades to our local roads.”
Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, Kevin Hogan said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government would deliver more than $212.7 million this quarter to 425 Local Governments across the country for safer and better-maintained roads.
“The Federal Government is committed to building the infrastructure of the 21st century through our record $100 billion infrastructure pipeline,” Mr Hogan said.
“Enabling road infrastructure works to continue under strict social distancing measures is crucial to keeping the economy moving during COVID-19.”
